The Beerenberg Experience

Beerenberg, an iconic South Australian brand, has plenty to share when it comes to its history, the farm and its world-famous products. With food lovers coming from all over the world, Beerenberg wanted to make the experience of visiting the farm even sweeter. As specialists in feature joinery, you can imagine our delight when we were approached by design specialists, Arketype, to work on the new Beerenberg Experience (which officially opened on the 29th of November!).

The scope of works included a museum-style wall display featuring interactive sections of audio and visual equipment. The huge piece of joinery (extending nearly 20m!) was created with a carcass framework that was cladded in ply panelling face material. The face material was created in three stages of finishing:

  1. The A grade plywood was stained in two different colours to mark different sections of the exhibit.
  2. The face ply panels were sent for digital printing of the graphics.
  3. A clear coating was applied to protect the panelling from user interaction (e.g. sticky jam fingers).

To give the panelled wall a fixing-less finish we used the Hafele Keku clip system; invisible fixings that still allow access to the rear of the display if ever needed. A classy finish for a world-class brand.

The second component of the exhibit joinery was three ‘farm crate’ style showcase units, one of which holds a huge feature strawberry. Although we didn’t manufacture the strawberry, we worked with a Victorian manufacturer to solve the fixing detail, so we’ll claim that! The showcases were constructed on v-groove routed ply with a pine framework and stained to match the feature wall. They were then finished with an acrylic lid, hinged for access.

We love the finished product and feel grateful to play a part in telling the Beerenberg story.
